This example features an image inspection system for a Ø3.0 × 20 mm tubular shaft.

The system inspects:

  • Both end-face dimensions
  • Part deformation
  • Outer diameter
  • Overall length
  • Chamfer dimensions
  • Internal tube condition

while achieving a throughput of approximately 200–300 parts per minute.

■ Automated Feeding and Positioning

The workpieces are first oriented using a Parts Feeder.

They are then separated one by one through a carrier mechanism similar to a Ferris wheel before being transferred onto a Glass Table Jig for image inspection.

Accurate part orientation and stable feeding ensure continuous, high-speed inspection performance.

■ The Challenge Is Not Only Inspection—It’s Feeding

For small shafts and pins, one of the biggest challenges lies not only in inspection but also in part feeding.

Common production issues include:

  • Shafts entering the inspection station at an angle
  • Parts jamming or interlocking during feeding
  • Frequent minor machine stops caused by feeding instability

By simply replacing the carrier and table jig, it can accommodate a wide variety of workpieces.
