This week, we’re introducing the use of EDDY (eddy current testing) for detecting material mix-ups.
EDDY isn’t just for identifying scratches and cracks. It’s also effective for detecting mixed materials, hardness abnormalities, and heat treatment issues.
If the wrong material type gets mixed in or used by mistake, it sometimes leads to repeated heat treatment. This can alter part dimensions or mechanical properties. In critical components, this often results in scrapping all affected units.
With EDDY, however, non-contact, non-destructive, and 100% inspection is possible — all at high speed. It helps “rescue” parts without waste.
By integrating EDDY into a NANO standard machine, material mix-up and hardness issues can be inspected in the same cycle time as conventional image inspection (dimensions, deformation, wrong parts).
In fact, one bolt manufacturer experienced a material mix-up that wasn’t discovered until the final inspection or hardness test after heat treatment.
