This week, we are sharing insights on automatic Eddy Current (Eddy Machine) inspection.
Advancements in Crack and Hardness Testing
Traditionally, crack and hardness testing of components has been conducted through sampling inspections. However, with improvements in Eddy Current testing technology, including higher accuracy, automation, and speed, 100% inspection is becoming more common.
In this edition, we introduce high-speed, non-contact automatic inspection methods with concrete examples.
① Crack Inspection for Ball Joint Components
The workpieces rotate while flowing through a spinning disc.
A robot equipped with coils follows the spherical shape, inspecting the entire surface for cracks.
② Crack Inspection for EV Battery Components
The system picks and places the workpieces from a conveyor.
At the central station, a rotating shaft inspects four components simultaneously.
Why Choose Eddy Current Testing?
For surface defects and near-surface crack inspections, Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is commonly used. However, this method requires pre-treatment, cleaning, demagnetization, and incurs high electricity costs and additional running costs for magnetic particle solutions.
In contrast, Eddy Current automatic inspection allows for a small-scale start and gradual expansion based on performance and usability needs.
