Color camera inspection that detects subtle color differences

Expanding Inspection Possibilities with Color Cameras

In high-speed automatic sorting systems, monochrome cameras are generally used due to their advantages in resolution and data processing speed.

However, for inspections that require color identification, color cameras can be a powerful solution.

Take, for example, special bolts such as pre-coated bolts or nylock bolts, which have adhesive applied to the thread.
By using a color camera, it becomes possible to accurately capture subtle color variations and coating coverage — enabling fast and stable detection of coating quality.

Example: Coating Inspection Video

In this example, the bolt is rotated while the system checks:

  • Color and width of the coating (adhesive)

  • Dimensional accuracy and coating position

  • Any peeling or contamination on the surface

(Of course, this assumes the adhesive applied by the bowl feeder adheres firmly and does not peel off.)

Combining Color and Monochrome Cameras

By combining color cameras with monochrome ones, you can greatly expand your inspection capability — covering:

  • Dimensional inspection

  • Deformation detection

  • Mixed product prevention (MIX check)

Let’s make this week another great one!
