Image Inspection for Collar Components
This week, we introduce
a vision inspection case study for collar components.
Collar parts are important components used in
automotive interiors and exteriors, door areas, and suspension systems.
They can be manufactured using various methods
such as machining or cold forming,
depending on production volume and cost requirements.
However, as production volume increases,
manual visual sorting can become a significant burden for operators.
In such cases,
NANO’s vision sorting service can provide an effective solution.
Metal collars enhance the strength of joint areas
when assembled into components, ensuring secure connections without loosening.
Therefore, strict quality control is required
for the appearance of both end surfaces, especially:
• scratches on flat surfaces
• scratches on the inner diameter
In this inspection case,
coaxial lighting is used to detect fine scratches on both end surfaces.
In addition, the system also detects:
• Dimensional defects and deformation
• Mixed parts (MIX parts)
• Inner diameter burrs
• Metal chips or debris
Human vision is flexible and highly capable.
However, when inspecting large quantities of parts over long periods,
oversights can still occur.
With an automatic sorting machine,
inspection can be performed at approximately 200 parts per minute,
or about 100,000 parts per day.
Once NG conditions are set,
the system can consistently detect defects,
making it highly suitable for high-volume sorting applications.
In addition to round shapes,
the system can also handle long-hole and oval-shaped insert collars.
Recently, due to geopolitical risks and cost reduction pressures,
global supply chains are undergoing significant restructuring.
Even under such conditions,
quality requirements are not being relaxed.
Instead, the trend toward Zero PPM is becoming the new industry standard.
As a result, more companies are considering
automation and labor reduction in inspection processes.
