【High-Speed Automatic Sorting of Shaft Outer Diameters】

[This Week’s Feature] Supporting 4 Million Units per Month! What is High-Speed Shaft Diameter Sorting?

This week, we’re introducing a case study of high-speed automatic shaft diameter sorting, a system used in our mass production facility “FCT” where over 4 million motor shafts are produced monthly for power window motors.

From 6 Manual Operators → To Full Automation

These shafts have step differences of approximately 50 microns between sections.
Previously, inspection was done manually by 6 operators using micrometers, checking each piece one by one.

With the introduction of a customized high-speed automatic sorting machine from NANO,
we achieved the same production volume and quality levels while dramatically reducing the number of personnel required.

Why Was Automation Necessary?

FCT excels in high-volume production with minimal cost, using manual processes across multiple steps.
However, ensuring quality control at each process step is becoming increasingly important.

Even though this shaft model boasts a high process capability index (CPK 3.00),
issues such as accidental mix-up of reworked items or human error during visual inspection can still occur.

In export products, even a single defective part can severely damage company credibility.

The Key: A Simple Structure with Just 2 Cameras + Standard Machine

This model is specifically designed to measure shaft outer diameters, using a streamlined setup:
Just two cameras and a slightly customized standard machine—allowing balance between high inspection quality and low investment costs.

If you’re looking to improve inspection efficiency and reduce labor on your production line,
we at NANO SEIMITSU would be happy to propose a solution tailored to your factory’s needs.

Wishing you another productive and successful week 😊
